When online could arrive
Both of Rockstar's recent games added online after launch: GTA Online went live about two weeks after GTA 5 (September 2013) as a free update, and Red Dead Online entered beta the month after RDR2 (October 2018). A similar post-launch rollout is plausible for GTA 6, but Rockstar has confirmed nothing — treat any online date as speculation for now.

What happens to the current GTA Online
Rockstar keeps feeding the current GTA Online right up to the handover: The Kortz Center Heist, its first all-new heist since 2020, lands on July 14, 2026 — four months before GTA 6. Nothing has been said about shutting the old servers down, so expect both games to coexist for a while, the way GTA Online kept running alongside Red Dead Online for years.

Will GTA 6's online mode be free?
